WALKING tours in BARCELONA Port Vell.
From Pla del Palau, cross to the edge of port, where the Moll d'"España, the Moll de la Fusta, and the Moll de Barceloneta meet. The modern wonders of the new Port Vell complex-the IMAX theater, Aquarium, and Maremagnum shopping mall-loom seawardon the Moll d'Espanya. The Palau de Mar, with its five quayside terrace restaurant, stretches down along the Moll de Barcelona. Take a Stroll through the Museum de Historia de Catalunya(MHC) in the Palau de Mar for  a purely Catalonian view of its national history.

Museum:
Museo Marítim - Las Reales Atarazanas de Barcelona.
Maritime Museum, the superb Museu Maritim is housed in the 13th-century Drassenes Reials (Royal Shipyards) to the right at the foot of the rambla. It's full of ships, including a spectacular, life-size reconstructed gallery; figureheads; nautical gear; and several early navigational charts.

Parc de la Ciutadella. Citaldel Park.
Once a fortress designed to consolidate Madrid's military occupation of Barcelona, the Ciutadella is now the city's main downtown park. The clearing dates from shortly after the War of the Spanish Succession, when Felipe V demolished some 2000 houses in what them the Barrio de la Ribera (waterfront neighborhood) to built a fortress and barracks for his soldier and fields of fire for his artillery. The fortress walls were pulled down in 1868 and replace by gardens laid out by Josep Fontserè. Within the park are a cluster of museum, the Catalan parliament and a Zoo.

Castell del tres Dragons. Castle of three Dragons.
Built by Domenèch i Montaner as the café for the 1888 Universal Exposition, this arresting building greets you as you enter the Ciutadella From Paseig Lluís Companys (President of Generalitat de Catalunya 1934-1940). It later became a workshop where Moderniste architects met to experiment with traditional crafts and to exchange ideas. It now holds the Museum of Zoology.

Font de la Senyoreta del Paraigua.
Fountain of the Lady with the Umbrella. Escape the sights and sound of the city by this fountain, its lake, and behind it, the monumental Cascada, by Josep Fontserè, designed for the 1888 Universal Exhitition. The waterfall's rocks were the work of a young architecture student named Antoni Gaudí his first public works, appropriately natural and organic, and certainly a hint of things to come.

Museum:
Museu de Geologia.
The museum of Geology is next to the Castell dels tres Dragons, not far from the beautiful Umbracle, the black slats of which help create jungle lighting for the museum's valuable collection of tropical plants. Barcelona's first public museum, it display rocks, minerals, and fossil along with special exhibits on Catalonia and the rest of Spain.

Palau de la Ciutadella - Citadel Palace. Museum of Modern Art.
This is the only surviving remnant of Filepe V's fortress, now shared by the Catalan parliament and the Museum of Modern Art of Barcelona (MAM) - Museu d'Art Modern. The palace's late 19th and early 20th century Catalan paintings and sculptures, by such artists as Isidoro Nonell, Ramon Casas.. and Marià Fortuny, form one of Barcelona's artistic treasures. A stroll through this collection make it very clear that Catalonia's more famous artists - Gaudí, Picasso, Dalí, Miró.. emerged not from nowhere but from an exceptionally rich artistic context.

CAMP NOU EL BARÇA.
If you're in Barcelona between September and June, go see FC Barcelona play, preferably against Real Madrid (if you can get in). Games are generally played Saturday night or Sunday afternoon at , but theme may be cup or internationals games during the week as well. Ask you hotel concierge how to get tickets, or call the travel Agency in advance. The massive Camp Nou stadium seat 130.000 and fills almost to capacity. A museum ha an impressive array of trophies and a five-screen video showing memorable goals in the history of one of Europe's most colorful soccer clubs.
