BALEARIC ISLANDSPALMA DE MALLORCA Set in the western mediterrain, with 300 days of sunshine and over 1200 km of coastline, the Balearic Islands are a vacations paradise. With unspoiled natural neauty, thearcipelago consists of four main islandsm Mallorca Menorca, Ibiza and the smaller Formentera, as well as many islets, the most important of whitch is Cabrera a maritime and terrestrial national park.PALMA DE MALLORCA. Monuments and Places of interes Palma Cathedral: Of sounthem Gotic style, except for the Baroque main door. The Cathedral was built on the site of a Moslem mosque during the 13th century reign of King James I, the Conquedor. The most outstanding features of the building are vast interior columns of 21 metres spanning the huge dome whitch towers over three naves: the altar, redecorated by Antoni Gaudí, and the Royal Chapel's sepulchre where the remains of such historic personages as King James II and King James III are buried. Pilar and Miró Foundation : A vibrat promotion and investigation of art. The Foundation house, apart from a permanent collection of Miró's woks, an extensive range of artistic incentives, from temporaney exhibitions by well known artists to conferences, symposiums, musical cycles, debates etc. The "Pilar & Joan Miró Foundation" consists of the Foundation, housed in a modern building designed by the architect R. Moeno, and four ateliers : Sert, Son Boter, Taller de Litografia and Taller de Grabado. All these buildings are surround-ed by typical Mediterranean gardens set on a hilliside overlooking the sea. Arab Baths: One of the few remaining relics of Arab rule to be found in Palma. Bellver Castle : Built during the 14th Century by King James II of Mallorca, this magnificent example of Gotic architecture boasts a unique circular design that is the only one of its kind in Spain. As is to be expected, the Castle stands on a hill from where it dominates the entire Bay of Palma, whaile offering outstandig views over the capital and surrounding countryside. The Municipal History Museum is housed inside the Castle. Palau March. In the historic centre of Palma, nex to the Cathedral an palace of Almudaina, one can visit the majestic Palau March. The monumental palace has converted its spacius interior into an attractive museum housing numerous artistic objet. These incluide the great collection of contemporary sculpture.... Sa Lotgia. This building, an impressive example of civil Gothic architecture was designed and built by Guillermo Sagrera in the 15th century and is outstanding for the elegance of its palm tree shaped columns, virtually unique in Europe. Almaundaina Palace. Of Islamic origin, this was the official residence of the Kings of Mallorca and today continues to be the official Mallorcan residence of the King of Spain. Pueblo Español An interesting village, reproducing the different styles of Spanish architecture where you will find many shops selling traditional goods. There are also facilities for staging all kinds of congresses and banquets. We would particulary mention the recently opened museums : The History of Balearic Islands.... Basilica de Sant Francesc house the tomb of Ramon Llull, a 14th century mystic philosopher.
