The magic fountains, water, light, color and music: the symbol of Barcelona. This palace, which was projected by engenieer Carles Buigas for the
Universal Exhibition of 1929, was the Electricity Pavillon.
Are important (the
majestic fountains with light), made also by Carles Buigas, which are placed in
front of the façade. These fountains are one of the symbols of the city; the
water jets acquire and infinity of forms and colors.
At night the Palacio
Nacional, which in behind the fountain, casts to sky nine beams of light, the
same number of letters in the world Barcelona, which combines whit the forms and
colours of the magic funtains.
Its is one of the most gorgeous spectacles on the
city. The spectacular nature comes from an innovator system, keeping in mind
the time when they were created, with tow concentric cups in different levels in
order to from the main body.
The water arrives to the fountains with a flow of 2400 litres per seconds; the
central stem reaches fifty meters high. Pumps and ventilator with a total power
of 1413 horsepower, as well as 47300 light bulbs producing 1455 kw., are the
energy which gives life to the fountains.
Urbanized for the first time in 1908 the Plaza de España took its present
from as the threshold of the Universal Exibition. The semicircle of columns of
the fair places is articulated with the rest tow towers that frame the entrance

Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña Museum MNAC .
National Museum of Art of Catalonia. This museum, housed in the imposing Palau Nacional, was built in 1929
(architect Enric Català Pedro Cendoya, with Pere Domènech i Roura ) and
recently renovated by Gae Aulenti, architect of the Musée d'Orsay, in Paris. The
Romanesque and Gothic frescos and altarpieces here are simply staggering. Most
were removed from small churches and chapels in the Pyrenees during the 1920s to
ward off the threat of export by art dealers. When posible, the works are now
being returned to their original homes or are being replicated, as with the
famous Pantocreator fresco, a copy of which is now back in the church of Saint
Climent de Taüll. The museum also contains works by El
Greco, Velázquez and Zurbarán... paintings of famous painters Catalan.
